Clearing the Air: Student-Led Advocacy for Tobacco-Free Communities

At the heart of the initiative is a dedicated team of youth leaders who serve as both educators and advocates. These students work within their schools and throughout the broader community to raise awareness about the real impacts of vaping and commercial tobacco use. By sharing accurate information, personal perspectives, and peer-to-peer messaging, they help shift attitudes and encourage healthier decision-making among their peers.

Beyond tobacco prevention, the team also promotes overall wellness by creating opportunities for improved nutrition and healthier lifestyle habits. Whether organizing events, leading discussions, or collaborating with community partners, these youth leaders are helping to build environments where making healthy choices is easier and more accessible.

Investing in Student Wellbeing: Shaping Healthier Minnesota Communities Together

A unique and powerful aspect of the program is its integration of art as a tool for wellbeing. Through creative projects and artistic expression, students explore topics related to mental health, identity, and resilience. These efforts not only engage their peers in meaningful ways but also highlight the important connection between creativity, emotional wellbeing, and community connection.

By combining education, creativity, and leadership, the Student Health and Wellness Team is helping to inspire a generation of young people to take ownership of their health—and to support one another in building stronger, healthier communities.
